Like most home owners of old historic homes, at some point they need a major overall of the existing structure. In this case the siding, windows and front porch were in need of major repairs. Since the front porch had a significant slope and was not insulated, it was in the client's best interest to just start from scratch and make the porch part of the living space. The goal was to keep the home in the same architectural style while making some architectural improvements to the home. In the demolition of the front porch we discovered a series of floor layers and the front wall of the porch was completely rotted away. So the renovation was very good timing. The siding on the home was completely replaced with an engineered wood siding. The side entry was another item the Carpenter's wanted to improve architecturally so we added a new door and put an awning with a steal roof over the side entry. The front steps also needed to be altered by adding an additional step because of the difference in elevation after leveling the floor of the front porch.
